Casey Steinmiller is a 23 year old photographer, videographer, and content creator who specializes in the music industry. At the age of 21, in a local Pittsburg Kansas bar, he discovered music photography as the perfect bridge between two loves, art and music.
He changed his major multiple times, because he couldn't decide what to do with his career, and landed on . He started working for the booking department at his school, which led him to a show, where The Downtown Fiction was headlining. Looking to build his portfolio, he began shooting at a local bar, and was soon picked up by an online publication. Crazy to think that a local bar can kickstart someone's career, huh?
Casey's experience ranges from local venues to large-scale events such as Warped Tour with several images published in Alternative Press Magazine. However, he has found particular enjoyment in touring with bands, which he has done for over a year across the United States.
In this episode we discuss post production and how important it is. Clients tend to not appreciate the post production process, which makes it difficult to price them fairly. Don't worry, we talk about how to work through that scenario.
If you're trying to shoot a show, definitely try to shoot at a local venue, because you don't necessarily need to shoot under a publication or even reach out to managers, which is so relieving when you're first starting out. Having to put yourself out there and potentially get rejected over and over again is terrifying in itself, but it's going to happen, so buckle in.
